Why does an open-weight model need a Model Card?
A Model Card gives people the context they need to use a model responsibly: what it is, what it was trained for, what it should not be used for, how it was evaluated, and where its limitations are.
Open weights make distribution easier, but they do not automatically explain training data, licenses, known failure modes, or the evidence behind performance and safety claims. This generator turns those release questions into a checklist you can review before publishing.
What the status labels mean
- Documented means the field has the information expected for that type of claim.
- Needs evidence means a claim exists, but it lacks a method, date, result, or source.
- Missing means the field has not been documented yet.
