What is a Model Card?

A Model Card gives people the context they need to use a model responsibly: what it is, what it was trained for, what it should not be used for, how it was evaluated, and where its limitations are.

Why does an open-weight model need one?

Open weights make distribution easier, but they do not automatically explain training data, licenses, known failure modes, or the evidence behind performance and safety claims. This generator turns those release questions into a checklist you can review before publishing.

What the status labels mean

Documented means the field has the information expected for that type of claim.
Needs evidence means a claim exists, but it lacks a method, date, result, or source.

Is this Model Card generator free?

Yes. You can complete the form and export Markdown or JSON without creating an account or paying for the first useful result.

Is this an open-source Model Card generator?

The web tool is free to use and its Markdown and JSON exports are portable. The website repository does not currently publish an open-source license, so the application should not be represented as open-source software.

Does the generator upload my model weights or form data?

No. Document generation runs in your browser, drafts stay in local browser storage, and the tool does not upload model weights or the contents of your form.

Can I use the generated Model Card on Hugging Face?

Yes. The Markdown export is structured so you can review it, edit it, and use it as the starting point for a Hugging Face repository README.

Does a completed Model Card certify that a model is safe?

No. A Model Card organizes release claims and highlights missing evidence. It is not a safety certification, legal opinion, compliance guarantee, or substitute for model and application testing.
